May 12, Day 5, At Sea – Day 3 on the Rotterdam

It was still rolling and pitching a bit when we got up about 8, but it was less so than yesterday, and after going to bed on a full stomach, I slept well and felt fine this morning. We ate breakfast as a family in the dining room, not buffet, and it was good. The family then all gathered in the Explorers Lounge, the ships library and computer room. Internet is available for an unreasonable fee, for those that feel they require it. Otherwise its a great place in the middle of the ship to relax, read, and have an espresso or cappachino. We didn’t stay together for long there.

At 10, Wendy and I took the Kitchen tour, a 15 minute walk thru the ships Galley. Lots more to see than they showed us, but it was neat to see something that was “behinds the scenes”.

After lunch in the dining room, just Wendy and I, we attended a 3pm “mixology class” in the Mix bar. There were about 30 others there, so there were too many people to let us all mix our own, just wasn’t practical. I figured they wouldn’t anyway, but Wendy found out from another bartender, Papu, that there are often less then 10 people and then they do allow people behind the bar to mix and shake their own. And drink them too. Three drinks are included in the $15 price of the “class”, and they provide written recipes for each to take. It was fun, and after each drink was mixed, a humorous toast was given by one of the crew.

After the class was over, we stayed in the bar to get another drink. Our two friends from Colorado stayed with us and we continued our chat and laughs. Augustine brought us some plates of spring rolls and dimsum, along with caviar and plain yogurt, a different kind of treat. Another hour later and it was already time for our 5:15 dinner.

At 9pm Wendy and I headed back to the Piano bar and stayed there until midnite.
