Dec 22 Friday – Christmas in Aiken Day 2- Flight to Augusta

We had a two hour wait in Atlanta for DL4998 to Augusta. This was a Bombardier CRJ-200 which is about 50 passengers. So there weren’t a lot of people waiting in the terminal. I like that about small planes, not so crowded. Anyway, when it was time, we got SkyPriority boarding and made our way to regular cabin seats 3A & B, which were small but comfy and just enough legroom for a 40 minute flight. My only complaint was the windows are too low to look out of, unless you are a kid or are short. I wouldn’t want to fly on one of these for more than an hour. But there are lots of these little jets around the country that fly 2-3-4 hr flights.

The flight took off a few minutes behind schedule but as a 1 hour scheduled flight, it only lasted 40 minutes takeoff to touchdown. A nice flight for my first time on a regional jet.

Karen & David were waiting in the terminal for us, our bags came real fast, and we were in the car heading to Aiken. But we were hungry as we hadn’t had anything to eat since midnight snacks, and K&D suggested the Sunrise Grill in North Augusta, SC for breakfast, which really was good. Wendy had an excellent Corn Beef Hash, and I had Sweet Potato pancakes with a cinnamon syrup, which made it all taste like a cinnamon roll. We both felt a lot better after that.

Upon arriving home and getting settled, Wendy took a 2 hr nap since she hadn’t slept all night. I was tempted but also wanted to sleep fully tonight.

For dinner we went to Carolina BBQ. As reliably good as I remember it twice before, and Wendy LOVED it.

After supper, we drove to Hopelands Gardens to walk thru all the christmas lights. We had to park a half mile away, and walk down but the temps were just warm enough for me to be good with a jacket and shorts. LOTS of people there. We had an option to take a shuttle bus in, but the lines waiting for the buses were massive and it was quicker to go find a parking spot and walk a little. Credit to David for these pics.

Inside the gardens, they were serving free cookies and hot chocolate or cider, which we enjoyed on our walk back to the car. It was a pleasant evening, but we were definately tired by the time we got home, and went straight to bed.

I still had some coughing left in me from my cold, worst laying down, and pretty soon I was downstairs on the couch sleeping under one of Karens quilts. That gave Wendy a chance to catch up, and I was eventually able to get some good shut eye as well despite continued coughing.
