A good hike today

Went up to Kendall’s Katwalk, a 5-1/4 mile hike in on the Pacific Crest Trail, north from Snoqualmie Pass. I forgot to take my camera. It was such a nice day, it really ticked me off. Oh well, I had a good time anyway. You can get an idea here about where I went. Got some sun, some exercise, and saw lots of people.

Departed the trailhead at 7:40, a number of cars in the lot but had the trail mostly to myself for the first 3 miles. Passed a couple of people about 2 hours in, then was passed by a couple other people. Otherwise was still quiet. Clear skies opened up Mt Rainier, which with no haze really made me mad I didn’t have the camera. This trail is moderately easy, but the difficulty in it is the length. Not until 4 miles do you see any view, but from there until 5-1/4 at the katwalk is nothing but beautiful views. But thats okay. I got there at 10:20, so 2 hours and 40 minutes up.

What I’d read about it made it seem like a tricky narrow crossing of a blasted out section of steep mountainside. Well, it was blasted out alright, but wide enough for 3 or 4 people to walk side by side. Photos don’t really show that. Still, incredible views.

Spent an hour resting, eating, then about 11:40 I turned around to head back. There were LOTS of people coming up, guesstimate about 100. Got back to the car at 2:10, lot was full up with more cars out on the street. So, 6.5 hours RT for 10.5 miles with lunch. Not bad. My feet are sore, my shoulders are even more so from carrying the pack that long.
