Wendys Birthday Weekend

Wendy’s birthday was Saturday the 7th. She had Friday thru Monday off, but we were spending Sat/Sun at her moms. It had snowed a couple inches on Friday but not overnight and wasn’t forecast to again until later in the day. I had a fish shipment to clear before we left but I was up early and had that done, and we were packed up Friday evening, so we were out of the house about 7:45 without having had breakfast, taking just a hot drink in the car with us. From about Everett north it was very windy. Radio said the Port Townsend-Keystone ferry was cancelled due to high winds. It wasn’t too bad on the road but noticable. We got to moms about 10am after stopping for a few groceries on the way, and then Wendy made some good sausage, scrambled eggs and toast for a late breakfast.

After eating, I had my laptop so worked on a couple other work files I had with me(pakistani carpets coming in by air on British so I wanted to get them cleared early – unfortunately they were delayed until Sunday), then we went outside for some light yard work. Mom wanted one bush removed from the front of the house, which I brought my chainsaw for, and there were several others that needed trimming. We stuffed all the branches and trimmings in the back yard on the growing brush pile. Mom suggested having a bon fire, but it was way too windy for it. We were done in an hour and it was still cold and windy so we went back inside.

At 4 Carolyn and Greg came over with his 5 yr old Mathew, and a little after 5 we headed to Anthony’s Homeport on the Everett waterfront for Wendy’s birthday dinner. The weather gave us a little bit of everything on our drive there, rain, snow, hail, sun…….you name it. Wendy wanted Mathew to ride with us and mom, so then Greg and Carolyn drove separately in his pickup(it’ll seat six but its too high off the ground for mom to get in and out of). We were about 20 minutes early for our 6:15 reservation but they seated us after a short wait. I had Tempura prawns and vegetables and salad, Wendy had another prawn variation, and we were both reasonably satisfied with it, but everyone else had fish & chips or a steak and didn’t care for it. Wendy got an icecream with a candle in it but no production was made otherwise. It was nice of Carolyn and Greg to pay for dinner. We left about 7:30 and headed home. Before going to bed we watched Madagascar 2 which mom had from Netflix.

Sunday we woke to 4 inches of fresh snow. But at least the wind was gone. It slowly warmed and melted as the day went on. We had another late breakfast and then in between some computer stuff I releveled moms washing machine, and fixed a couple minor gutter leaks on the garage. We left for home around 3pm and were surprised to find another 4 inches of snow. Apparently it had started again Saturday morning not long after we left and pretty much snowed on and off all day. So I got my exercise shoveling part of the driveway.
