Mickey Dolenz in Concert

When we heard a couple months ago that Mickey Dolenz was coming to the Snoqualmie Casino for a concert on Aug 20, at a relatively inexpensive price, we got tickets. Its a small venue, maybe 750 people, so its cozy, and our price of $30 each got us 2nd row right down in front. We had a good dinner in the buffet there before the concert, and then got seated about 30 minutes early. The 8pm start time was fashionably late as expected, and the band came out about 815. Looking around at the mostly full crowd, my first impression was that of a geriatric fan club, with a couple of people with walkers and wheelchairs. But there were a few younger looking people like us, and I’m sure most still “felt” young. The concert only lasted 76 minutes, but since Mickey is older and the crowd was older, no one seemed to complain. Second row seats put us about 10 feet from him when he got to the edge of the stage, and those in the first row got a chance to shake his had when he first came out.

(pictures were allowed without flash, no video. my phone just didn’t quite have what it took to grab some good shots, but you get the idea. It was too slow, every time I took the shot he turned away right as I clicked. Should have brought the camera. Oh well. He slipped and fell in the third shot, but was okay and recovered fine, I didn’t even realize what happened until Wendy confirmed it later)

He and his band played some great oldies as well as cover some Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, and others. The standard Monkees songs were great, Last Train to Clarksville, Pleasant Valley Sunday, I’m a Believer, lots of others. And he joked and talked to the crowd a bit too. Most of the band members including his younger sister who sang a couple songs herself were all aged like everyone else in the room, but they rocked like they were half the age.

For me this was the third decade in a row that I’ve seen a monkee in concert. Somehow I doubt there will be one in another 10 years……..
