May 14, Day 7, Cruise day 5

It certainly was a short night considering we went to bed so late. My cell phone came on at 6 and buzzed with emails downloading, which made a quiet but effective alarm. Wendy got up, and I did also once our breakfast was delivered at 7am. Which also coincided with our 7am arrival in Vancouver.

First thing I noticed upon getting out of bed, was the exit to the pier was on our deck, right outside our door. So when we eventually departed we only had to round the corner and we were out.

My breakfast was some shredded wheat cereal, orange juice, coffee, and an english muffin. I really didn’t feel like more than that the night before, and still didn’t when I was done. That was at 7:30 and our disembarkation reservation was for 8-8:30. When they called our number, right about 8am, Wendy, me, Dad & Mary walked off the boat and into the lines at immigration and customs. Since we were headed for a bus directly back to the border, it was fairly quick, and then we had to wait for our bus which was scheduled to depart at 9:20 or so.

Karen & David weren’t disembarking until 9 or so as they would be meeting his sister who was driving up from Sumas to pick them up. Once the rest of us got our seats on the bus, and it was a full bus, it wasn’t long before we headed south thru Vancouver and towards the border. We had a very quick stop at the border where a nice customs lady agreed to come onto the bus to take our declarations and see our passports. They didn’t make any of us get off the bus, which was a good thing because there were 4 other buses ahead of us who were being offloaded for more thorough inspection. We continued our drive to Seattle and were there by 12:30pm. At about Everett, Mary called Tom Kintzi to ask for a pickup and ride home from our bus stop. He was in a meeting but agreed to pick us up about 1:30. Since we were an hour early, and Wendy & I didn’t really want to wait for even an hour, we grabbed a waiting limosine and paid $40 for a ride back to Dads for the 4 of us. Mary tried to then call Tom, and caught him just as he was about to get into Dads van to head our way. When we got home, I apologized to him for the mixup, as he apparently had left his meeting early to come get us. But he graciously deferred my apology and said it was no problem.

Wendy and I made a hasty departure and got home about 2:15pm, and unpacked with plenty of time yet to do some overdue yard work. A good way to end a very relaxing week.
