Aug 8 2012 Seafair Weekend

This has nothing to do with Seafair. Except its the same August weekend.

David Erickson arrived in town Friday night, and came out on Sunday to go hiking with me. It was 90ish degrees out, hottest day of the year in Seattle area, so I chose a cool hike – The Snoqualmie Tunnel from Hyak west and back.

The tunnels was a constant 50 degrees with a 4mph wind blowing thru from West to East. It was somewhat chilly, but we didn’t need to put on any sweater or jacket. There were numerous areas of rain dropping on us from the tunnel ceiling. Upon reaching the west end, we used the toilet, took some pics, then walked another 1.6 miles to the Annette Lake trailhead. Took a small break, then turned around and walked back east, thru the tunnel and to the car. The tunnel was 2.3 miles long, the walk from the car to the tunnel was maybe 1/4 mile, so all in I come up with 8.3 miles total. The cool of the tunnel was nice on a hot day, and there were many hikers and bikers going thru.

On the way back thru I had to replace the batteries in both my headlamp and my flashlight. Made quite a difference in both. This hike was very enjoyable and very worthwhile!
