a GOOD Friday

AH Carter was closed for the “holiday”. We did it last year for the first time, Alan complained a little bit, but Torben had written in it into our Policy manual. It was mostly because Torben is catholic but we all appreciate the day off.

I still had about 3 hours of work to do from home, took some files home with me. Got them done, then went to get a haircut at 11. After that, it was time for a small lunch, then another short hike for exercise. Started at 2pm, lots of people coming down Rattlesnake, I was the only one up there for a 15 minute rest. Completely clouded in, but no rain, slightest of drizzles. A half liter of hot chocolate to warm me up, then head back down. Only a couple people coming up on my way down. I guess I timed it right.

Wendy got off work 2 hours early, so she was waiting for me when I got home. After I showered, we drove up to Kirkland to see Alan. Some minor bad news prevented us from seeing him, but we sat with the family and friends for a couple hours and chatted. A pleasant experience and support fot them. As of the time we were there, we were told that Alan had developed a possible blood infection which may require a transfusion. That will be decided within a couple days. He also developed an infection in his small intestines according to stool tests. So they closed his door and anyone going in to see him must gown up. He was still asleep and we didn’t want to put gowns on so about 7:45 we headed home. So sad. But the family is doing surprisingly well. Everything is “gods will”. As it should be. However, I can’t help but feel that things continue to get a little worse each day, and God will eventually call him home. Mentally, I’m already prepared for that, but I’m not sure the company is.

Updates on Alan’s condition are being provided by Alans daughter Laurie at http://www.carepages.com/carepages/AlanCarter/ which requires a free but minimal registration. She is doing a great job. Once registered, you can leave notes for the family to read. The support they’re getting is fantastic.
