May 8, San Diego

Our long anticipated vacation, a repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver BC begins on Monday the 10th. We flew down to San Diego this morning on Alaska Air, an uneventful trip, except for a loud crying baby right behind us. The weather in Seattle when we left was gorgeous, and only slightly warmer in SD when we arrived at 1:30, and we were at the hotel in downtown San Diego by 2:30, where we met Hans, Mary, Karen, & David. Freshened up, and ready for lunch, we walked two blocks and ate at the Karl Strauss Brewing Co. brewpub. Somewhat pricey but very delicious. And GREAT beer & ale.

After that we walked a few blocks to the Blue Line light rail station and rode to Old Town San Diego, a touristy collection of kitschy shops, restaurants, & museums. Enjoyable in the warm sun. It was about 70 deg with a breeze, warm in the sun yet cool in the shade.

Our hotel room is on the 8th floor of the Best Western Bayside Inn about 5 blocks from the waterfront, with a watefront facing view. Right now at 7pm its looking straight into the sun. But thats fine with us. Its a beautiful view.

We’re about to go to dinner in Little Italy in a few minutes. Then a relaxing evening. Tomorrow? Who knows.
