Two weeks ago(scroll down to the previous post) I walked east to west on the Iron Horse trail along Keechelus Lake from the Stampede Pass exit on I-90 and the parking area at the Keechelus Dam. Today I parked at the west end at Hyak/Snoqualmie Pass, where everybody else goes west into the Snoqualmie Tunnel, and at 11am I walked east along the lake, approximately 1/2 way to the same location I stopped two weeks ago going west. It was only a 1 hour walk from the parking lot, and mileage was approx 3 miles. Keechelus Lake is approx 6 miles long. There are remnants along the way here from the old railroad snowsheds from the previous century.
At noon I set up my little trail sling chair at the same spot as last time, and had my lunch and enjoyed the breeze and sun for 45 minutes. It was approx 75 degrees with some high overcast, so the sun was not hot but really quite comfortable. There were maybe 5 boats out on the lake fishing.
At 1245 I picked up my chair and walked back west about 1/4 mile to another viewing area and sat for another 15 minutes or so before packing up and walking back to the car.
There were quite a number of people bicycling along the lake, I didn’t count them but estimate maybe 50. When I got back to the parking lot, a couple women stopped me to say they were just looking around and found this parking area, and wanted to know what all was here and where the trail went. So I gave them a brief overview west thru the tunnel and east along the lake, and how the Iron Horse goes east all the way to Idaho.
From here I rested on a picnic table for a short while with a drink and then drove home.
