Rattlesnake Mountain Redux

I’ve done this before a few times, Rattlesnake Lake to Snoqualmie Point, 10.5miles. The last time was Sept 23 2014. Just scroll down, you’ll see my posting.

It was a perfect sunny day, cool 40’s to start, but forecast for mid-upper 60’s. I started at 0830 with a large crowd already at the lake heading up, and ended 1400 with much less of a crowd. I had Wendy pick me up at 1415 and drive me back to the lake to get the truck, and I couldn’t BELIEVE how many cars were parked on the road up to the park. Never seen that many before. Sure glad I didn’t go halfway and turn around!

Wasn’t much to describe about today otherwise, but once I got past the Ledge, I was much more alone with only a few passing hikers. I conversed about 10 minutes with a new age hippie, guy was about 30’s I’d say, carrying a large duffel bag on his back and a guitar in front. Says he plays as he walks, just makes stuff up as he goes. He lives on Alki, no car, walks or takes the bus everywhere. No cell phone. Works at Safeway stocking shelves nights. Said he caught the Snoqualmie Casino bus from downtown last night for $10, and they give you a $10 food voucher and $10 games voucher, so he gambled about $20 then camped overnight in a friends local backyard. Got up and started hiking at Snoqualmie Point about 0730 just taking it easy. Was heading to the lake, where he figured on camping the night, then walking into NB and over to Mt Si on Sunday before heading back home on a bus on Monday. He was a real free spirit and loved to talk.

Other than that, my hike was great but uneventful. Now its time to rest up.
